MEET THE SISTERS:
KENDRA: Hi! I’m Kendra. I’m a singer/songwriter and guitar player for the Redhead Express. I grew up on country music, 80’s pop-rock bands and Broadway musicals. I sang jazz in high school and learned bluegrass on the guitar, so my musical tastes are all over the board. Some of my biggest influences are Eva Cassidy, Alison Krauss and the Dixie Chicks. I love music and I love people. I love that I get to sing and entertain with the people that I care for the most. Oliver Wendell Holmes said “Alas for those that never sing, but die with all their music in them!” I believe in the power of music and I believe that everyone has a song to sing that is unique to them. My hope is that by sharing my life and experiences through music, I can make a difference in the world. And I hope by doing what I love I can inspire others to do the same –To jump out on a limb, chase a dream and live a life that’s full. When we let go of our doubts and fears and share our souls, we can change people – one at a time – and that’s how we change the world.
LARAE: My style has been influenced by a wide variety of music including: 70’s/80’s Pop Rock (Journey, ABBA, Styx, Bryan Adams), Dixie Chicks, and Celine Dion. My mentors for the banjo are Bela Fleck, Earl Scruggs, Jim Mills, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban. Keith helped to bring the banjo back into Country music. He uses what’s called a “Ganja” (a 6-stringed banjo tuned like a guitar) which makes for a seriously unique style of “banjo” playing that I’ve become passionate about. I love all my siblings like crazy and I can’t imagine my life without them. I’m living my dream and I feel so blessed to be living it with them.
ALISA: Hi, my name is Alisa:) I am the fiddle player, mandolinist and generally the low harmony singer for the Redhead Express. I’ve been playing fiddle since I was eight and have absolutely grown to love what I do. I have been inspired by many artists in various genres: Nickel Creek, Stuart Duncan, Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss and many others. My favorite thing about performing is seeing people’s reactions & knowing that I was involved with bringing a smile to someone’s face.
MEGHAN: Hey, my name is Meghan! I’m the youngest redhead of the group … which would explain why I got stuck with the biggest instrument. But I love it.:) I also do most of the high harmony singing and some lead. Artists and groups like the Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Journey, and Billy Joel have inspired me and, over the years, shaped the sound that I bring to the band. My bass mentors and inspirations are Mike Bub and Victor Wooten. I’ve been playing for over eight years now and I feel so privileged to be able to do what I love for a living, while traveling the world and ing all of you. I wouldn’t trade this life for anything; dreams are worth chasing, no matter how hard it may be.
